Improve the product detail page from the shopper’s point of view. We align titles, item highlights, bullets, descriptions, images, search terms and product information around customer intent, Amazon requirements and a clear path to understanding the offer.

01 / CLARITY

Make the product immediately understandable.

Prioritize the information shoppers need to identify the product, understand its purpose and decide whether it fits their needs.

02 / RELEVANCE

Align content with shopper language.

Use relevant product attributes and search terms naturally across the listing while keeping the information accurate and useful.

03 / CONVERSION

Remove avoidable uncertainty.

Strengthen images, features, descriptions and supporting content so shoppers have enough information to make an informed purchase decision.

What listing optimization covers

The product detail page is a connected system.

Amazon’s current guidance treats titles, bullet points, descriptions, search terms, classification and product imagery as connected inputs to product discoverability and shopper understanding.

Amazon’s product discoverability guidance emphasizes complete, relevant product information, while its product-detail-page requirements set rules around accurate information, titles, bullets, descriptions and images.

Listing components

Optimize each element for its actual job.

Product title

Make the product name clear, concise and informative. Include the details shoppers need without turning the title into a keyword list.

Item highlights

Where available, use Item Highlights to surface useful product characteristics, materials or recommended use cases that help shoppers compare options.

Bullet points

Use concise feature-focused points to communicate important characteristics such as contents, uses, dimensions or operating considerations.

Product description

Expand on benefits, uses and value proposition with accurate, readable copy that adds information instead of simply repeating the bullets.

Product images

Use clear, high-quality imagery to show the product, important details, variations and real-world use where appropriate.

Search terms

Use relevant customer language and product attributes to improve discoverability without stuffing unrelated phrases.

2026 title and Item Highlights update

Keep listing strategy aligned with Amazon’s current requirements.

Amazon announced a 2026 product-title update. Starting July 27, 2026, titles in categories other than media are required to be 75 characters or fewer, including spaces. Amazon also introduced Item Highlights, with an additional 125-character field for product highlights such as materials or recommended use cases. Amazon says Item Name and Item Highlights are both inputs for search and neither is prioritized over the other.

This makes title writing more deliberate: the title should identify the product clearly and efficiently, while eligible Item Highlights can carry additional useful product information. Always check current category-specific requirements before production changes.

Our optimization workflow

Strategy before rewriting.

1. Audit

Review the title, highlights, bullets, description, images, search terms, category and available product information.

2. Understand the shopper

Map search intent, purchase context, important questions and decision criteria.

3. Build the hierarchy

Decide which facts belong in the title, highlights, bullets, description, imagery and richer content.

4. Map search language

Use relevant customer terminology and product attributes without sacrificing readability or accuracy.

5. Rewrite and produce

Create concise copy and clear visual direction that reflect the actual product and category requirements.

6. Validate

Check policy requirements, factual accuracy, category rules, mobile readability, image standards and consistency.

Title optimization

Write for identification, not keyword stuffing.

Amazon’s current requirements state that titles should contain relevant information specific to the item and remain clear and concise. The 2026 framework makes this especially important because most non-media titles are limited to 75 characters.

  • Lead with the information needed to identify the product.
  • Include relevant attributes that help shoppers distinguish the item.
  • Avoid promotional language, seller information, pricing, availability or unrelated claims.
  • Follow category-specific title requirements.
  • Use normal capitalization and punctuation.
  • Do not repeat keywords simply to occupy space.

Review Amazon’s product detail-page requirements before finalizing changes.

Bullet point optimization

Use bullets to answer the buyer’s next questions.

Bullet points should make the product easier to evaluate at a glance. Amazon highlights useful information such as key features, contents, uses, dimensions, operating considerations, age appropriateness, skill level and country of origin.

Feature

State the meaningful product characteristic clearly.

Benefit or use

Explain why that characteristic matters when appropriate.

Specifics

Include dimensions, compatibility, contents or other decision-critical details where relevant.

Consistency

Keep the structure understandable across related products so shoppers can compare them.

See Amazon’s bullet-point guidance for current requirements.

Image optimization

Let shoppers see what the copy cannot explain.

Images are part of the product-information system. Amazon Ads currently recommends four or more high-quality images showing different angles, important details and product use cases, with images at least 1,000 pixels in height or width for zoom capability where applicable.

Main image

Present the product clearly and follow current main-image requirements.

Feature images

Explain dimensions, components, features or other important details.

Lifestyle context

Show appropriate real-world use when context helps shoppers understand the product.

Variation clarity

Where relevant, show colors, sizes, configurations or other variations clearly.

See Amazon Ads’ product-detail-page improvement guide.

Search-term strategy

Use search language that belongs to the product.

Amazon recommends relevant search terms that shoppers might use when looking for the product. Useful inputs can include features, materials, size, use and other genuinely relevant attributes. Advertising search-term reports can also provide evidence about queries shoppers use to discover products.

Start with the product

List terms that accurately describe what the item is, does, contains or supports.

Use shopper language

Prefer natural terminology that matches how customers describe the product or problem.

Mine performance data

Where available, use search-term reporting to identify relevant queries.

Avoid irrelevant claims

Do not add unrelated keywords, subjective claims or language that misrepresents the product.

Amazon Ads search-term reports and product optimization guidance provide current details.

Customer clarity

Optimization should reduce uncertainty, not just add keywords.

  • Clarity: Can a shopper tell what the product is within seconds?
  • Fit: Can the shopper understand whether it matches their needs?
  • Proof: Are important claims supported by accurate product information?
  • Use: Does the content explain how and where the product is used?
  • Completeness: Are important decision-making details missing?
  • Consistency: Do title, images, bullets, description and A+ Content agree?
Listing compliance

Accuracy and policy compliance are part of optimization.

Amazon’s current requirements prohibit misleading information and a range of promotional, contact and off-platform content in titles, descriptions, bullet points and images. Product information should accurately represent the actual item, and images must follow current standards and category-specific requirements.

Accurate claims

Keep specifications, compatibility, performance and factual statements aligned with the actual product.

Category rules

Check category-specific requirements before applying generalized templates.

Image standards

Validate main and secondary images against current Amazon requirements.

No prohibited promotion

Avoid pricing, availability, contact details, external ordering information and other prohibited material in restricted fields.

Frequently asked questions

Amazon Listing Optimization FAQs

What is Amazon Listing Optimization?

It is the process of improving a product detail page’s content, imagery, product information and search relevance so shoppers can discover, understand and evaluate the product more easily.

What should be optimized first?

Start with product identification and shopper understanding: title, current Item Highlights where available, core product information, images and bullets. Then improve description, search terms and richer content based on evidence.

How does the 2026 title update affect listing optimization?

For non-media categories, Amazon’s 2026 framework limits product titles to 75 characters including spaces and introduces Item Highlights as an additional field. Check current requirements for the specific category and marketplace.

Does listing optimization mean keyword stuffing?

No. Relevant search language should help Amazon and shoppers understand the product, but the listing still needs to be accurate, readable and useful.

How are A+ Content and Listing Optimization different?

Listing Optimization focuses on core product-detail-page information and assets. A+ Content adds a richer content layer with enhanced modules, storytelling and comparison experiences.

Can Amazon PPC data help listing optimization?

Yes. Where available, advertising search-term reports can provide evidence about relevant queries shoppers use to discover products. Those insights should be filtered for relevance before being applied to listing content.
